Records In My Life: White Lung

We had a very detailed and banter filled interview with Mish and Kenneth of the band White Lung the other week when they were in town as part of the Levitation Vancouver music festival.  Filmed just down the stairs from The Commodore Ballroom at the Bottleneck Bar, Mish and Kenneth discussed some of their favorite and most influential albums including one album they could agree upon as a mutual love: Wipers.  I enjoyed this interview, the White Lung members were real band mates with all the undercurrents of people who've toured and recorded together, plus they picked some great albums!

Records In My Life: FIDLAR

We met with Zach and Elvis from the band FIDLAR before their appearance as part of Levitation Vancouver this weekend.  As there were still a lot of bands sound-checking during the interview we filmed this clip at the Bottleneck bar downstairs from the Commodore.  The two had a lot to say about their musical influences and seemed to have a fun time discussing albums from Neil Young, Redd Cross, Rage Against the Machine and more.  Really genuine guys, and a good interview.  Have a look.

Records In My Life: Yeasayer

Records In My Life: The Kills

We are extremely pleased to present this week's episode of Records In My Life.  This week we feature Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart of the rock and roll duo The Kills.  We filmed this interview backstage at The Commodore Ballroom, before their sold out show here in Vancouver.  Jamie and Alison had a lot of fun telling stories of their favorite albums, which run from early Bad Brains, thru PJ Harvey and up to Iggy Pop.  Easily our best episode to date, I'd like to extend thanks to the band for being so entertaining as well as Benn McGuire for his camerawork on this show.  Have a look, it's a great episode!

Records In My Life: Big Black Delta

I will confess that I am a Big Black Delta fan, so when the opportunity came to interview him for an episode of RIML I insisted we take it! The first Big Black Delta album from 2013 was on heavy rotation on my phone for months, and I still find it entertaining three years later.  BBD recently released a follow up album, Trágame Tierra and we caught up with Jonathan Bates before his appearance at the Biltmore Cabaret here in Vancouver last week.  A very affable man, with an obvious love of all kinds of music, our conversation lasted over two hours and ended with producer Charles Brownstein and I sharing a glass of whiskey backstage while Jonathan related tales of touring and the odd concerned word about the state of the USA.  A very fun interview that could have lasted hours if we'd had even more battery life in the recorders.   Please have a look, and check out the new album, it's a solid and creative follow up to the debut full length.

Records In My Life: Violent Femmes

We had the pleasure of meeting up with Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes last week before their sold out show at The Commodore Ballroom.  While we were told only Brian might do the interview it was a real treat when Gordon Gano popped in to offer a couple of his favorite albums - particularly Johnny Thunders "Live at Max's Kansas City", before slipping back to his room to warm up for the show!  It was interesting to hear Brian cite a few of his influential albums, and came as a bit of surprise when he listed first and foremost Yes "Fragile" as the source of his bass playing style (which in retrospect makes total sense.  Have a look!

Records In My Life: Lucius

We caught up with members of the Brooklyn band Lucius on their tour bus before their show at  Imperial Vancouver last week.  Almost every band member dropped in for a quick little cameo and we managed to meet up with 4/5ths of the band.  Drummer Dan Molad held a very fun conversation with Charles and discussed some of his all time favorite albums including his sisters band The Last Wish, while singer Jess Wolfe revealed her love for Roy Orbison, and guitarist Peter Lalish dropped in at the end for a quick chat about Chris Cohen and  Warren G. A really fun interview.
