New Band - The Charm Offensive (live)

The Charm Offensive, a brand new band featuring Hatch Benedict (front man of Sex With Strangers) and Trish Kelly, performed their debut show earlier this autumn at The Fox Cabaret.  The band has just released their first EP - Polite Mouth/Honest Hands which available on iTunes, Spotify and all other streaming sites.

In the clip below the band is joined by two additional backing vocalists (The Bow-ties) for the song Alternative Facts.

What inspires Sex With Strangers? #RIML

Records In My Life had the pleasure of interviewing Hatch Benedict and Cory Price of the band Sex With Strangers just before soundcheck at the Fox Cabaret this October.  Sex With Strangers
is celebrating their sixth studio album, "Discourse," produced by Jason Corbett (Northern Light Records). 

Sex With Strangers have a new video out for the first single Gift of Fear and are already in production with the follow up. 



The band goes back a long ways with me, and a big part of my love for them has always been their humour.  I think the interview shows a glimpse into the world of Sex With Strangers, though it would take more than six minutes to capture the energy of friends making music together for 20 years!

Momento - Sex With Strangers' New Video

It is with great pride that we present the brand new, live off the floor, video of Sex With Strangers single "Momento'.   We shot this clip a couple weekends back at the rather bizarrely horror movie themed Sanctuary Rehearsal studios in East Vancouver.  Everybody showed up and killed it.  Lead singer Hatch Benedict is in top form, and I think this is the first time I've seen his live-show energy captured on camera.  But I suppose that is because it is live!

Industry Night Live ep.6: Fake Shark Real Zombie

We are excited to release episode six of Industry Night Live with musical guests Light Organ Records artists Fake Shark Real Zombie.  Filmed before a live audience on December 30th 2013, the band gave a great interview with host Hatch Benedict (of Sex With Strangers) before performing a blistering set of high energy songs.

On Monday December 16th we have The Dreaded Soul performing on Industry Night Live, it'll be a great show, do not miss it if you have any love for R&B, funk or soul.  These guys kill it!  

INL4 - Gold Stars Are For Suckers - photos

We had another really good Industry Night Live show last Monday at the Cobalt.  There was a keenly receptive and stalwart audience, in spite the snow!  Gold Stars Are For Suckers put on one of the best shows to date, and played a lot of new material from their forthcoming EP.  Here are a couple stills taken from editing the footage we got on the night.  I think everyone would agree that Gold Star's silent member, dancer Voodoo Pixie, was a highlight of the show!  It looks and sounds great, very excited to share the next episode.  We are just putting the interview together for the final cut as I write. 

Of course Hatch Benedict conducted the entire interview in Rich's well worn wrestlers mask, which will be revealed in the final episode.  File Gold Stars' under Party Rock.

Industry Night Ep3: Phoenix Thunderbird

Industry Night Live (Episode 3) featuring musical guests Phoenix Thunderbird with host Hatch Benedict.

The band performed a blistering showcase last week on November 25th at the Cobalt Cabaret.  In this episode Hatch explores the roots of Phoenix Thunderbird's sound, and discovers not one of them watched the Cosby show back in the 80's.  In addition to segments from the live set, they also perform their song "Idle Thoughts" at the 4 minute mark.  A very fun night and certainly our best video to date.

Next Industry Night: Gold Stars Are For Suckers - Dec 9th

December 9th 2013, Industry Night #4 featuring musical guests Gold Stars Are For Suckers with host Hatch Benedict at the Cobalt Cabaret.  

After our debut at the Cobalt last night with Phoenix Thunderbird, the folks of Industry Night are gearing up for the next one on Monday Dec. 9th.  

Gold Stars Are For Suckers will be premiering their new video and performing new songs from their forthcoming full length album. Hatch Benedict (lead singer of Sex With Strangers) will be interviewing them in his own liver challenging style to reveal exactly what makes a sucker of gold star lovers.

Industry Night: Episode One - Japanese Girls

We had a fantastic launch to our new series on Monday night, with an energetic and inspired performance by Japanese Girls and a hilarious interview with Hatch and Cory from Sex With Strangers.  The crowd was buzzing after the night and there is a feeling of excitement about the upcoming shows.




Our next show in the series is Monday Oct 28th with musical guests Legs and host Christine McAvoy.  There's quite a buzz surrounding this band so we expect another brilliant night down at the Media Club.

After the 28th we are relocating the show to The Cobalt, and will be restarting on Nov 25th with none other than Phoenix Thunderbird!  Expect Hatch to be back in the interviewer seat, he did a wonderful job and seemed to enjoy it thoroughly!

Industry Night Oct 21-Japanese Girls w host Hatch Benedict

Oct 21st - we have a special first showcase of Industry Night featuring Light Organ Records recording artists Japanese Girls who will be performing songs from their just released The Sharkweek EP.  Hosting the night's festivities will be none other than Hatch Benedict and Cee Price of the band Sex With Strangers.

Sex With Strangers' inimitable Hatch Benedict and Cee Price will be taking a one night break from recording their new album just to host this showcase, so you know things will be going off with a bang!


Please join us for the fun.  There will be guest DJ's Cory and Co. to entertain after the showcase into the late hours.  The Media Club sounds great, is comfortable and has very good Monday night drink specials too! ($3.50 Jack Daniels and el Jimador)

Industry night is just around the corner at the Media Club starting next Monday, October 7th.


Oct 7th.  To make our first show something special we've asked comedian Simon King to host the evening.  The man is truly funny.  Check out the clip below.  Along with Simon there will be two other special guest comedians with DJ's Cory and Co. closing the evening with the best of party tunes to make next Monday a stellar time!   Musical guests for the night at Megabear.  


Oct 14th is not an official Industry night, however there will still be late night dancing with H&M Soundsystem providing the tunes and drink specials into the wee hours. 

Oct 21st is looking to be a fantastic night.  We have Light Organ recording artists Japanese Girls on stage, with guest hosts Hatch Benedict and Wedge Beavers from the band Sex With Strangers interviewing the band and offering their unique take on the music biz.  The evening's DJ's are Cory & Co. once again, spinning some happy tunes to make Monday nights into the dance party it needs to be! Check out the new EP from Japanese Girls below.


Oct 28th is another great night, with the smokey voiced Legs on stage to provide a sultry blues infused rock and roll evening.  Benn McGuire will Host.   Music by H&M Soundsystem.

This is going to be the most fun people have had on a Monday in Vancouver since this century began!  Come early for the show, and stay for the dancing! (Jack Daniels has sponsored our night, so please inquire at the bar for the evening's drink specials!) 

inside Sex With Strangers

Isabelle Dunlop has made a short clip reviewing the escapades Sex With Strangers had at The Peak Performance Project Bootcamp.   Everyone involved has been extremely positive about the experience, from faculty through to this year's crop of exceptionally talented bands.  The showcases should prove to be really fun to watch!

Sex With Strangers rehearsing for SXSW

Sex With Strangers will be performing at this year's SXSW in Austin Texas.  They are also on the verge of releasing their brand new album, Frontier Justice.    So, even while the inimitable Hatch Benedict is away from Vancouver, the rest of Sex With Strangers got together today to teach new keyboard player Luna their songs.    Below is a quick clip of them learning We Want the Fire - no lead vocals or vocoder today unfortunately.
